Regulations on the Daily Management of International Students at Jiangnan University

Article 1 To further strengthen the daily management of international students, these regulations are formulated according to the actual situation of the university and the spirit of several documents, including “Regulations on the Recruitment and Cultivation of International Students” ( Order No. 42 of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security), “Management Measures of Enrollment and Education of International Students at Jiangnan University” (President Office of Jiangnan University [2018] No. 39).

Article 2The School of International Education coordinates the day-to-day management of international students which includes educational lectures, activity guidance, life support, teaching services, handling of rewards and punishments, and emergency response. The off-campus daily administration is carried out by the School of International Education in cooperation with relevant units outside the university.

Article 3Each school shall assist the daily management of international students on campus, specifying a senior administrator to oversee international students' affairs and dock with the School of International Education. The relevant functional departments shall join the on-campus administration according to their assigned responsibilities.

Article 4The university shall further improve the systems for the enrollment, cultivation, management, service and alumni work of international students, and make public the basic information of school operation, management and service systems, tuition and fee standard and other important matters.

Article 5The university will incorporate international students into the information management system, provide them with the necessary study conditions and living facilities, and establish personal profiles for them.

Article 6The university respects the national customs and religious beliefs of international students but does not provide places for religious activities, and no religious activities are allowed on campus.

Article 7The university shall refer to the policy of rewards and punishments for Chinese students, and act accordingly for international students and put it on record. Rewards include honorary titles and scholarships; disciplinary sanctions include warning, serious warning, demerit, probation, expulsion, etc. International students who are disciplined have the right to hearing and the right to appeal in accordance with the law.

Article 8International students shall participate in the school’s orientation and security & safety education, abide by Chinese laws and regulations and the school’s rules and regulations, respect Chinese social customs, get to know and love China, love and honor the university, and refrain from any behavior that attacks other countries or nationalities or violates public morality.

Article 9International students shall abide by the social order and campus order, take care of public property, be civilized and polite, and shall not drive motor vehicles or non-motorized vehicles illegally or behave in a way that endangers social safety or campus safety.

Article 10International students shall abide by the regulations on apartment management; if they live off-campus or change their addresses, they shall register with the public security department in a timely manner and take the initiative to file with the School of International Education.

Article 11International students shall participate in courses, internships and group activities in accordance with the arrangements made by the university and the respective schools; they shall fulfill the leave of absence procedures in advance if they cannot attend for any reason; for those whose absence rate reaches a certain level, the university will report to the immigration authority and will not extend their visas or renew their residence permits.

Article 12International students shall abide by the “Exit and Entry Administration Law of the People’s Republic of China” and “Regulations of the People’s Republic of China on Administration of the Entry and Exit of Foreigners”, and apply for visas or residence permits in accordance with the laws and regulations, and shall not engage in matters unrelated to the type of visa.

Article 13All international students are required to have insurance coverage, those who do not have as required shall get enrolled in an insurance plan within the deadline and those who fail to do so will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Article 14International students may voluntarily participate in cultural and sports activities that are beneficial to their physical and mental health; with the approval of the university, they may establish peer friendship groups within the university, and organize activities according to Chinese laws and regulations and the university’s rules and regulations, and under the guidance of the School of International Education.

Article 15International students may apply for work-study assistance in accordance with the law, but they are not allowed to seek employment, engage in business or other business activities during their study in China.

Article 16These regulations shall come into force as of the date of promulgation and the School of International Education reserves the right of interpretation.
