In order to improve the education of international students and provide globalized higher education, the university has set Chinese language proficiency requirements for international students, taking into account the actual situation of the university and referring to existing documents such as the “Regulations on the Recruitment and Cultivation of International Students (Order No. 42 of the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Public Security) ”, and “Standards of Higher Education Quality for Foreign Students in China (Ministry of Education〔2018〕No.50)”. The requirements are as follows:
I. International students with majors where Chinese is the teaching language should be able to complete the learning and research tasks in Chinese, and to use Chinese at work related to their majors. Students are required to obtain a Level V certificate of the International Standardized Test for Chinese Proficiency (or HSK) upon graduation.
II. International students with majors where English is the teaching language should be able to complete the learning and research tasks in English, and to use English at work related to their majors. Undergraduate students are required to obtain a LevelⅣcertificate of the International Standardized Test for Chinese Proficiency (or HSK) upon graduation, while graduate and doctoral students should obtain a LevelⅢcertificate.
Ⅲ. For international students who choose English as the language of instruction, their dissertations can be written in English with abstracts written in Chinese.
This policy is applicable to the international students enrolled since 2022. The School of International Education of Jiangnan University reserves the right of final interpretation.
