In order to actively respond to General Secretary Xi Jinping's call for international students to "understand today's China, must understand the Communist Party of China", to lead outstanding international students into China's factories and communities to gain insight into the revolution, construction and reform achievements under the leadership of CPC, and to experience the most accurate, comprehensive, and three-dimensional China, on July 19 and 20, 18 students from 10 countries, including Yemen, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Liberia, Rwanda, Djibouti, Somalia, the Republic of Congo and Cuba, formed the team of the "Reading CPC History, Learning China -- The 2021 Jiangnan University International Students' Summer Social Practice” and went to Jiaxing and Anji of Zhejiang Province to carry out an educational observation and practice activity on China's national conditions.
In Jiaxing City, the international students visited the Nanhu Revolutionary Memorial Hall and paid tribute to the former site of CPC. When they heard that CPC has grown from a handful of communist groups at the beginning of its establishment with only more than 50 party members in the country, and now it has grown to 95 million members, when they learned about the Opium War, the Hundred Days’ Reform, the Revolution of 1911, the May 4th Movement, the Long March of the Red Army, the founding of People’s Republic of China and the tremendous new achievements in the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics, the students all lamented the hardship of CPC's entrepreneurship and admired the precious spirit of the Communists! They understood the spirits of pioneering, striving and dedicating which the CPC members have insisted for a hundred years.
Kader Ali Ibrahim from Djibouti, a Ph.D. student from the School of Internet of Things Engineering, praised: "I have long heard that CPC is a great party, leading the Chinese people to achieve impressive achievements, but I don't know the 100-year history of struggle. It is full of so many difficulties and challenges. When I saw the "map of the current situation" of the powers dividing China, and when I heard that the Red Army marched more than half of China to save the nation and resist foreign humiliation, I admired CPC even more! I love China even more! This visit has benefited me a lot. I got a plenty of knowledge that couldn’t be learned in class. It is also strengthening my confidence in continuing to study hard and making more contributions to the friendship between Djibouti and China!"
In Anji County, the students visited Yucun, the birthplace of the two mountains theory. Nowadays, the small village are surrounded by green mountains and beautiful rivers, a scene of harmonious new socialist countryside. But when everyone learned that mines were still used for livelihoods and the pollution was serious more than ten years ago, they all can’t believe it. Through the vivid examples, real-time data from the intelligent management platform and the speech video of Xi Jinping's two visits to Yucun, the villagers explained to the students that the ecological civilization must not be developed at the expense of the environment. The students expressed their sincere appreciation for the determination of CPC in the new era of reform and opening up to grasp economic construction and environmental protection with both hands.
Leo, a Cuban master's student from the School of Food Science, will never forget the scientific development road of Chinese-style rural areas represented by Yucun. He said that the rapid economic development of modern society is mainly at the expense of the environment. The achievements and progress made by China over the past 30 years of reform and opening up are evident to all. In Yucun, the most basic governance unit, it’s incredible that the village can make the whole people rich and the countryside beautiful meanwhile. There must be condensed the core ideas and wisdom of CPC in governing China. Leo hopes to have the opportunity to introduce what he has seen and heard to his home-country and ordinary people and to share China's development experience with everyone.
The two-day summer social practice activity of "Reading CPC History, Learning China" came to an end amidst the international students' enthusiastic discussions and their reluctance to end such experience. Hope that the young students who have different skin colors and different languages but " China known and friendly" are willing to contribute to the building of a community with a shared future for humankind. Hope they can "read thousands of books, travel thousands of miles," and insist on observing and volunteering in the national conditions, perceiving China and integrating into China in service, teaching support visits, internship practice, etc. Also hope that they can tell the world their Chinese stories through personal experiences and tell the responsibilities of CPC as a century-old party.
